The best street food around the world

Sometimes, the best dining experience in a country isn’t in a Michelin-starred restaurant (米其林星级餐厅) but at a street stall (街边小摊). Here is some of the best street food from around the world for you.

Halo-halo, (The Philippines)
A cup of colorful “halo-halo” is the perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day. Directly translated as “mix-mix,” it’s an attractive sundae which consists of red beans, coconut and fruit with ice cream, with shaved ice (刨冰) covered on top.

Tostada, (Mexico)
Unlike a taco (墨西哥卷饼), which is soft, a tostada is traditionally fried until it becomes crisp. It’s usually made with a fried corn tortilla (玉米粉圆饼) as a base and topped with refried beans (煎豆泥),cheese and even seafood. Be prepared to get messy as a crisp tostada doesn’t make it easy for eating.
Bunny chow, (South Africa)
Don’t worry, bunny lovers, this South African snack is rabbit free. A bunny chow is a hollowed-out (空心的) square loaf of baked bread filled with a rich and spicy curry (咖喱). Its fillings range from chicken to mutton (羊肉).

Xiaolongbao, (China)
Xiaolongbao, which was supposedly invented by a street vendor (小贩) in the late 19th century, has become so popular that it is a Chinese food icon in Asia and around the world. People say eating Xiaolongbao is indeed an art and a technique—you have to hold it tenderly, sip (啜) a little of the hot soup and then eat the whole of it.
